First off all, I want to ask just a question; have you watched the Lord of War? It was about war and arms dealers. Nicolas Cage as Yuri Orlow is an illegal arms dealer. His job is selling a weapon. In this movie, he says that "Private dealers conduct less business than the five largest arms exporters- the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, France and China- who are the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council." According to the movie, there are even more gun shops than Mc Donald's in the USA. In this situation, how can we stop terrorism? One of the vital sources of terrorism is an arms trade and implicitly the USA, isn't it? Because, the USA is by far the largest arms exporter in the world.
As known, there are many terrorist organizations in the world. Some of them are the Al Qaida, the ISIS, the Taliban, the PKK and the YPG. Also the aim of terrorism is to create a chaos and fear in public. At that moment, it is necessary to ask this question; is it possible to destroy terrorism? Of course, we can finish the ISIS. However, to stop terrorism, is it enough to fight against the ISIS? Moreover, there is a double standard about terrorist organizations. For instance, the USA and Russia support the YPG which has attacked to Turkey. How can we act in unison and how can we tackle this double standard? In addition to all, the crucial question is: how can we solve a state-funded terrorism?
Unfortunately, basically, the approach of countries on terrorism depends on their national interest. Terrorist organizations have got international networks to find new followers and convert or launder money. In other words, terrorism has got international features. For this reason, if we want to tackle terrorism, we have to be united. International community has to collaborate together against terrorism. For this reason, we need a new perspective against terrorism. Fighting against terrorism is more important than national interests. Because there is no limit for terrorism. Numerous bombs were exploded in Belgium and in Turkey last month and many people were killed by terrorists.
According to Joshua W. Walker, a former Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, "Brussels shows us that there are no boundaries for terrorists, but also that as an international community, we have the potential to come together in the face of terror." To sum up, International community has to be one against terrorism. It should not be forgotten that the combating terrorism is more important than national interests. We have to improve a collective international strategy against terrorism, not a one-sided national strategy.
